Behind him, the middle infield combo of Ronny Simon and Brandon Lowe combined to make life miserable for the Mets pitching staff — Simon went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base for 31.5 fantasy points, and Lowe added a home run and a walk to finish with 31.0, giving Pittsburgh production up and down the order rather than relying on one or two bats.
Out of the bullpen, Lake Bachar chipped in 22.0 fantasy points to help slam the door on the shutout. This was, top to bottom, a complete team performance — pitching, power, and depth all showing up on the same night.
Mets lineup goes silent
On the other side, it was a quiet night for New York. Chandler and the Pittsburgh bullpen kept the Mets off the board from start to finish, and the offense never found a rhythm against a Pirates staff that didn't allow a run all game.
What it means going forward
For Pittsburgh, this was exactly the response needed after stumbling against Milwaukee. Chandler looks like a foundational piece on the mound, and if Mangum, Simon and Lowe keep producing like this, the Pirates have the makings of a lineup that can support strong starting pitching rather than waste it.
