Rangers Down Angels 5-3 as Bullpen Delivers
Cal Quantrill has become the guy Texas turns to when a game needs to be finished the right way. Sunday, he turned in a relief outing that took over the game. The right-hander piled up 44.0 fantasy points out of the bullpen, headlining a 5-3 Rangers win over the Angels at home.
Texas came into Sunday off a mixed stretch, with wins and losses in recent days against both the Angels and the Nationals, but Sunday's game went to the home team thanks to a complete team effort that started behind the plate and ran all the way through the pitching staff.
Elias DĂaz set the tone offensively, turning in a 32.0-point day that made him the clear engine of the Rangers' lineup. At 35, DĂaz isn't just a caretaker back there — he's still doing damage with the bat, and Sunday was a reminder that experience can still move a lineup. Right behind him was Ezequiel Duran, who chipped in 28.0 points from the shortstop spot and gave Texas the kind of table-setting production that turns close games into comfortable ones.
Cody Freeman added 19.5 points, and Corey Seager, who's been a steady presence in that Rangers infield, kicked in 16.5 more. The bigger issue was that nobody in Anaheim's lineup matched what Texas got from its top two performers. José Fermin's 11.0 points out of the bullpen and Jose Siri's 9.5 were solid complementary pieces, and Mike Trout added 7.5 points, but it wasn't enough to offset a Rangers team that got contributions from six different players in double figures.
For Texas, the takeaway is different. This wasn't one performance bailing out a flat team. It was Quantrill locking things down late, DĂaz and Duran doing damage in the middle of the lineup, and complementary pieces like Freeman, Seager and Langford all pitching in. That's the formula the Rangers will need to lean on across a long season — balance, and a bullpen that can be trusted to close the door.
Nothing about Sunday changes what this season is or where either club stands overall this early. Texas leaves this stretch feeling good about its depth. The Angels leave it needing more from the lineup around Neto going forward.
