Chicago and Kansas City decided the best way to open the week was to skip pitching entirely. The White Sox outlasted the Royals 14-11 on Tuesday in a slugfest that saw both lineups tee off from the jump.

If there's an early theme to this young season, it's that Chicago's offense travels well and shows up in bunches. The White Sox banged out enough offense to overcome a Royals lineup that refused to go away until the final outs.

Randal Grichuk was the story from the jump. The DH turned in a monster night, racking up 66.0 fantasy points to lead all hitters and take home MVP honors. Whatever Grichuk was doing at the plate, Kansas City didn't have an answer for it. He set the tone early and Chicago never let go of the rope after that.

He didn't do it alone. Chase Meidroth was right behind him with 59.5 fantasy points, giving the White Sox a dangerous one-two punch at the top of the lineup that made this game hard to pitch around. Munetaka Murakami chipped in 39.5, and Brenton Doyle added 34.0, meaning Chicago had four hitters clear 30-plus fantasy points in a single game. That's the kind of across-the-board production that turns a close game into a laugher, and it nearly did before Kansas City made things interesting late.

Kansas City had its own thunder, though it wasn't enough. Vinnie Pasquantino was terrific, posting 63.0 fantasy points and doing everything he could to keep the Royals in it. Nick Loftin added 30.5 in support, and Maikel Garcia chipped in 23.0. Jac Caglianone continued to make noise with 19.5, and Bobby Witt Jr. added 18.0 of his own. That's a lineup with real thump, and on another night Pasquantino's night alone might have been enough to steal a win. Not this time. The gap between the two lineups came down to depth — the White Sox simply had more players producing at a high level than the Royals did.

Noah Schultz got the start for Chicago and finished with 19.5 fantasy points, not exactly the shutdown outing you'd draw up, but in a game where 25 combined runs crossed the plate, adequate was enough. Miguel Vargas, Tommy Pham, and Andrew Benintendi rounded out the Chicago attack with 15.0, 13.0, and 11.5 respectively, further underscoring just how many bodies contributed to this win. For Kansas City, Nolan Hoffman, Michael Massey and Carter Jensen all found their way onto the scoresheet too, but the math simply didn't add up against a Chicago attack that had scoring options from top to bottom.

For the Royals, this loss extends a rough stretch. Kansas City came in having dropped four straight before Tuesday, and now it's five in a row, with this loss to Chicago sandwiched around a string of defeats to Pittsburgh and Houston. Pasquantino is doing his part — he's clearly locked in — but one bat isn't going to be enough if the pitching staff keeps letting opponents put up crooked numbers. Kansas City needs its supporting cast, guys like Witt and Garcia, to find more consistency in a hurry, because right now the offense is too top-heavy and the losses are piling up early.

Chicago, on the other hand, looks like a team that's figured something out. The lineup is clicking, Grichuk looks like he's turned back the clock, and Meidroth is emerging as a real complement in the middle of the order. If the White Sox can get their pitching staff to tighten up even a little, this offense gives them a chance to be a problem for anybody in the league this year.

Fantasy managers take note — Grichuk's monster performance made him the headline act, but the multi-player production between him and Meidroth is exactly the type of stat line worth chasing on JockBroker heading into next week's matchups.
